The RC Water Works wall a couple of days ago. This photo was a happy accident. I was trying to figure out what shutter speed would give me the nicest smooth water, but it was still pretty bright at the time this photo was taken, and I did not have my filters with me. Yet, the sky, the rays of light, the water and the wall all looked pretty interesting to me, so I decided to try my luck. The original image isn't anything special, but knowing that I had an interesting sky, I thought about how I could post process it and maybe get something out of it. To make it, I created 2 versions of this single RAW file. One exposed for the sky, and another for the water. I then exported both into CS3 as layers and manually blended them. I then put it into Photomatix to to generate an HDR. A couple of curves, color balance, and a bit of dodging and burning later and this is what came out. Pretty happy with it. Hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think.

Wow. This is what I hoped HDR photography would create - it's not ultra realistic. It's a perfect exposure (or two). Matt @ 2009-11-30 15:01:30
@Matt, thanks dude! I really like the way this one turned out. This "process" is likely applicable to other images where exposure range is a problem but you don't want to go full HDR. John @ 2009-11-30 16:40:39
Nice shot John! great colours and mood on this one. nice! Mark @ 2009-12-07 19:28:12
