Burano Island #1

Trying something a little different from me with this image. This was taken on our second day of the photo tour when we made a 40 minute boat trip to the lovely island of Burano.Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon famous for its coloured houses and hand crafted lace.  We arrived early when the town was just starting to wake up, and were immediately charmed by its unique character. It's a very small island, you can probably circle it in about 30 to 45 minutes just walking. It felt like a sleepy village that early in the morning, but it slowly built up in activity as tourists arrived and the shops opened. We had a good 3 hours here, which gave us plenty of time to explore different aspects of the island. The main thing you are struck with are the colours. Here, and unlike Venice, the colours are striking and unique. The colours jump at you without any given pattern or order, they just happen. The island and town are old, but great pride seems to be had in maintaining the uniqueness of this place. If you go to Venice, this island is a worthwhile stop.As for the photo, when I shot this, my aim was to just show a small slice of everyday Burano colour. It's a bit abstract on purpose. Processing, a crop from the top right in, and just one curve to increase contrast. Added a slight vignet in Lightroom after editing in photoshop.
